City Council Candidate Bassett Attends Local Letterboxing Event

Bruce Bassett attended an event in Mercer Island’s Pioneer Park as part of National Trails Day celebrations on Mercer Island.

“Known as the “outdoor treasure hunting pastime,” letterboxing is a dynamic outdoor activity suited to all ages that combines aspects of treasure hunting with rubber stamp artistry and puzzle solving. Letterboxers hide small, weatherproof boxes in public areas such as parks and distribute clever clues to finding the box. Hunters decipher clues, search for boxes, and track their discoveries on logbooks using personalized rubber stamps.”

Bruce Bassett was on hand to participate and meet Island residents, and of course to hunt letterboxes.

Bassett Campaign Garners 100 Endorsers, Fundraising Proceeding Well

The campaign to reelect Bruce Bassett to Mercer Island City Council has announced that more than 100 endorsers have lent their names in support of Bassett’s reelection to City Council.  A key sign of community support, campaign endorsers include volunteers, donors and engaged citizens who wish to see Bassett continue his work on the Council.

Mercer Islanders in public leadership positions have endorsed Bassett, including elected officials from both Democratic and Republican parties.  While City Council positions are non-partisan and not aligned with either political party, endorsements from across party lines underscores Bassett’s ability to forge common goals shared by all residents.

Campaigns for any elected office are costly.   Bassett’s campaign began fundraising in May and has attracted donations from numerous Mercer Island residents.   Campaign donations are taken through the campaign website, www.electbruce.org.

Bruce Bassett Announces Candidacy for Fall Election

Bruce Bassett, first elected to the Mercer Island City Council in 2007, has announced he will seek re-election to another term.  In an interview with the Mercer Island Reporter, Bruce today announced there is “more left to do as a City Council member.”

Quoting from the MI Reporter article,

“Bassett, 50, has a pair of degrees in engineering, worked at Intel, Raychem and formed his own company, Virtual Research Systems, Inc. He has been ‘retired’ since 2001 and spends his days as a community and school volunteer. He plays soccer. He and his wife, Nannette, have two children at Mercer Island schools.

During his time on the Council, Bassett has been a Council liaison to the city’s Utility Board, Arts Commission and Design Commission, and has represented the city’s interests with the Eastside Transportation Partners, the Suburban City Association, and projects with the Mercer Island School District.

He has long been interested in environmental issues, championing parks and open space and ideas such as the joint schools-city concept of getting kids to walk to school, called the “Healthy Ways to School.””
